Test Hive Social 20.08

Find out what Hive Social is and why everyone is talking about it as an alternative to Twitter. Here are the app’s main features that you’ll love.
What is Hive Social?
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, a number of issues have driven Twitter users away, including the launch and subsequent cancellation of the Twitter Blue subscription, the reinstatement of Donald Trump’s account, and numerous technical glitches.
The Hive Social app is the latest to gain popularity—an app that combines features from Instagram, Twitter, and even MySpace.
Hive Social was launched in 2019 by its 24-year-old founder, Raluca Pop. It’s touted as a Twitter alternative, featuring a chronological feed, profiles, and featured posts, while drawing inspiration from Instagram’s visual design.
Hive Social has already reached 2 million downloads, and usage of the app is growing.

Hive Social: A Viral Twitter Alternative
Recently, the social app Hive Social topped the list of the most popular free apps in the App Store—surpassing TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and, of course, serving as an alternative to Twitter and Facebook. Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has prompted a large number of users to leave the app and switch to the Twitter alternative Hive Social, which has grown to more than 750,000 users since November 17.
Hive was founded by 24-year-old CEO Raluca Pop, who also goes by the nickname Kassandra when people have trouble pronouncing her Romanian name. Raluca Pop is a self-taught coder, and the idea for the app came to her while she was in high school. She and two team members—marketer Pablo and developer Josh—manage the app.
"We've really created and maintained a safe and healthy community. When you open the app, it just feels really pleasant and relaxed," she said.
November 17 wasn’t initially a special day, according to Raluca Pop, but then Hive started trending on Twitter.

K-pop fans embraced Hive Social as a new platform for self-expression. A post about Hive by a fan of the group Treasure received 11,000 likes. Another surge in sign-ups came from the Star Wars fandom.
More than 80,000 people decided to create accounts on the Hive Social app between November 17 and November 18. “Our servers did crash. We were working frantically on Friday to get them back up.”
On November 21, the app reached 1 million users. This was exactly when Pop’s team had released the Hive Social app for Android and 250,000 users had joined.
‘Zero Tolerance’ for Hate and Bigotry
One reason for Hive Social’s popularity is that users believe racism and bigotry have no place on this platform, whereas Elon Musk’s Twitter appears to permit them under the guise of free speech.
Hive posted on Twitter that it has zero tolerance for bigotry and hate, and controversial figures such as Donald Trump and Andrew Tate—who was banned from Twitter in 2017 for misogynistic views—are generally banned.
Hive also stated that “white supremacists are also deleted, without warning.”
Hive’s popularity surged as racial slurs increased following the lifting of Donald Trump’s ban and the introduction of the Twitter Blue subscription, which made everyone a verified user.
This may be one of the reasons why so many users are choosing Hive.

Why Do Users Love Hive Social?
Hive is a Twitter-like app; its feed lets users follow various topics, such as science and the arts, and features hashtags that help users discover similar content.
Users can also like, comment on, and repost content, as is common on many social networks.
You can also add music to your profile—a feature inspired by MySpace, the first social media platform.
Users can even upload nude photos to Hive and tag them as NSFW, but Hive notes that it does not intend to compete with OnlyFans.
Key features of the Hive Social app
Images and Videos
You can upload various types of visual content
GIFs
Post and comment with GIFs to interact with friends
Polls
Create polls to engage with the community
Profile Music
Express yourself through music on your account
Color Themes
Choose from over 35 different colors to suit your tastes
Be Proud
You can even share your zodiac sign and pronouns
While these features aren’t new, the app has a zero-tolerance policy toward hate and racism, which appeals to a large number of users looking for alternatives to the Twitter app.
Hive Social Drawbacks
When you download the Hive app on your iPhone, you may experience some lag. The app has had issues with email registration. You might see a pop-up message stating that your device was blocked due to “unusual activity.” Despite this, you can easily create an account using your phone number, though two-factor authentication is still not available.
The interface looks much more like Instagram than Twitter—it’s image-driven—but a great feature is that you can upload text-only posts. You may have trouble using the search function to find people; there are many users with the same username—for example, many profiles with the username @Karen.
Still, this is a good alternative to apps like Twitter and Instagram.
Final Thoughts
Hive Social has already reached 2 million signups since Elon Musk took control of Twitter. Hive gained massive popularity after Trump’s account was reinstated on Twitter. People are drawn to an app like Twitter—Hive—because of its zero-tolerance policy toward hate and bigotry. The app continues to evolve and is now managed by a team of three: CEO Raluca Pop, marketer Pablo, and developer Josh.
The Hive Social app may still have some bugs, but it’s developing rapidly and is managed by just three team members who work day and night. It offers great features, such as the ability to attach music to your posts, just like in the good old MySpace days. And we can expect Hive to replace Twitter in the near future.
