Logistics software development cost calculator

Estimate what a custom logistics platform would cost to build, then put that figure next to what your SaaS will cost over the same period.

What types of software can you estimate the cost of?

Our calculator lets you estimate the cost of eight types of logistics software, from fleet management and TMS to warehouse systems and platforms.

How much does logistics software cost depending on the project size?

Depending on project complexity, custom logistics software typically costs $30K-70K for an MVP, $90K–$200K for a mid-size platform, and $200K+ for an enterprise system.

  • MVP

    Typical scope

Up to 3 module groups, 1–2 integrations, web app

* Estimates are based on Stfalcon's past logistics projects and don't cover maintenance and hosting. The SaaS column shows what a similar operation typically costs per year in subscriptions and add-ons. For a full breakdown, see our logistics software development cost guide. For an estimate based on your own operation, use the calculator above.

Example cost scenarios

We ran each scenario through the calculator, comparing total costs over five years. We assumed SaaS prices rise 6% a year, which is typical at contract renewal. The bigger and faster-growing the operation, the sooner custom pays off.

  • Warehouse management

    One warehouse with 15 users

    Custom build

    $57K

    SaaS

    $46K

Includes inventory visibility, receiving, picking and packing, returns, and basic reporting. Assumes flat operation.

    SaaS stays cheaper

What affects the cost of logistics software development?

It depends on what your logistics software needs to do and how many other systems it has to talk to.

  • Project type

Your type of operation decides what modules you'll need first. A fleet operator starts with vehicle tracking, a freight forwarder starts with bookings and customs document processing.

  • Biggest cost driver

    Features and workflows

Every workflow you add, be it dispatch or invoicing, needs its own logic and testing. Each one is billed separately and raises the final estimate.

  • Integrations

You'll need a separate integration for every system your software shares data with. With the first integration, you build the foundation the rest will reuse (like secure logins), so they'll cost less.

  • Number of platforms and apps

Every app and dashboard your team and customers use should be designed and tested for a different user and device, so each adds to the estimate.

  • Data and AI functionality

Each AI feature costs more to build if your data is scattered or inconsistent. It has to be cleaned before a machine learning model can use it.

  • Compliance and security

The countries you operate in affect what regulations your software has to meet. Detailed user permissions and audit trails take extra development, too.

Barely moves the price

The size of your operation

While SaaS usually charges you for every vehicle or user you add, so your bill grows with your business, custom software costs about the same be it 50 vehicles or 500. Only hosting may grow as you scale.

How accurate is this logistics software cost calculator?

The calculator gives you a rough budget for your project, based on the features and setup you choose. Use it to decide whether custom software is worth exploring. Keep in mind, the real cost can come in up to 30–40% higher or lower once someone evaluates your data and setup and gives you the full estimate.

What the calculator knows

  • The modules you need
  • How many systems you connect
  • Your size and growth
  • Your SaaS spend (or its estimate*)

What it doesn't know yet

  • How clean and complete your data is
  • How well systems' APIs are documented
  • Workflows specific to your operation
  • Edge cases

*For the SaaS comparison, the calculator uses your monthly bill if you enter it, or average 2026 prices for your type of operation if you press “estimate for me”.

The calculator gives you a range, and the Stfalcon team can turn it into a plan you can budget and schedule against during our Discovery phase.

  • Step 1

    We review your operation

We walk through how your team works, including the edge cases you handle that don't make it into a feature list.

  • Step 2

    We estimate integration effort

We estimate integration work based on the systems you need to connect and data you'll move.

  • Step 3

    We design the architecture

Our Solution Architect designs the architecture, and we agree on which features go into the first release.

  • Step 4

You get an estimated timeline and project plan

We price every feature and split the build into phases with clear timelines.

Deliverables:

  • Per-feature estimate

Every feature priced separately, so you can trim or extend the scope.

  • Architecture and integration plan

How the platform is built and how it connects to the systems you use.

  • Phased roadmap

How software will be built, in what order, and how long each phase will take.

  • Takes

    4 - 6 weeks

The results are yours to keep, even if you decide to go with another technical partner.

Common questions about logistics software cost

  • How much does a logistics software MVP cost?

A logistics software MVP usually costs $20K–70K, depending on how many workflows and integrations it covers.
  • How much does a transportation management system cost to build?

Custom TMS requires a higher upfront investment ($200K–$300K typical for mid-scale), but the cost stabilizes and doesn’t increase per shipment or per use.
  • How much does fleet management software cost to develop?

For companies whose primary pain point is vehicle downtime and unplanned repair cost, maintenance-focused systems would cost $45,000+. For fleets that need to monitor vehicles, asset tracking platforms with hardware integration start at $80,000. Finally, operations management platforms covering the full operational layer (client management, order intake, dispatching, driver communication, vehicle assignment, and billing) start at $120,000.
  • How much do other types of logistics software cost?

    Based on Stfalcon's published estimates:

    Warehouse management system cost:
$80K–300K+, depending on logic complexity and integrations.
    Route optimization software cost:
    $40K–90K for a single-depot MVP, $90K–160K for a multi-constraint build, and $160K–250K+ for a real-time dispatch platform.
    Taxi app cost:
$80K–120K, plus about 15% a year for maintenance. For a fleet growing from 200 to 500 drivers, a SaaS platform at $28 per driver costs about $571K over five years, against about $160K for a custom build.
    Bus ticket booking platform cost:
$80K–100K for a competitive app. For an operator handling 50K bookings a month, SaaS costs about $2.48M over three years, against about $412,500 for a custom build.
  • How long does it take to develop custom logistics software?

Most MVPs take 3–6 months, depending on integrations, workflows, and features. Larger platforms are built in phases. For Nova Post, we launched the MVP in six months and kept adding features over the next 2.5 years.
  • Is custom software cheaper than SaaS in the long run?

Usually, once your operation grows. SaaS bills rise with every vehicle or user you add, while a custom platform costs about the same after it's built. For small, stable operations, SaaS often stays cheaper.
  • How much does maintenance cost after launch?

Maintenance usually costs 15–20% of the build cost per year, covering security updates and bug fixes. Unlike SaaS fees, it doesn't grow when you add vehicles or users.
  • Can I get a detailed estimate for my project?

Yes. You can start with a free 30-min consultation to talk through your calculator results.
